Heeeeey!

Things have been really crazy over the past couple of months while I've slowly tried to settle into NY. It sure is a crazy, awesome, exhausting city!!! But, I just got an apartment and I'll be playing some shows here soon. :) That said I was reaaaaallly honored and humbled to be one of Music Connection Magazine's "Hot 100 Unsigned Artists" of the year!!! Hey There!

I just wanted to let you know that soon, this site is going to change! It will still be selenagarcia.com, but I am overhauling all of my social networking sites with a new look and feel... new photos, etc! Also, a show has been added in September, so be sure to take a look at the TOUR section for updates on shows. :)

Hey There!

I just wanted to let you know that I've added one last minute show to the books before heading overseas. I'll be playing at Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday, July 12th (6pm), a day before I leave for 2 months. SO, if you live in the New York area, I hope to see you then! Otherwise, I hope to catch you when I get back in September!

Also, after arriving home from my first rehearsal with the band I'm playing Summerfest with, I received a package with copies of the Emerging Artist CD Compilation! It looks great!! A few of you have asked if it's something you can purchase, but I think it's just for distribution at the festival. I am going to hold a contest, however, for 5 lucky winners to get their own signed copy! I'll be updating this page soon with the details!

I did have to cancel rehearsal with the band today. My cold has kicked into full swing and after a night of thunder storms, I did not sleep much. But since I have trouble sitting still, I'm doing work from bed. I hope this finds you happy and healthy. Lots of love!

It has been interesting weather here in NJ/NY with temps in the high 90's, low 100's. A thunder storm moved in yesterday evening which was kind of nice. I think hot thunder storms are sexy. I am performing at Summerfest this year as a part of their "Emerging Artist Series" and depending on the number of votes I get, will determine whether or not I get a slot on the CD they are passing out to 10,000 people at Summerfest! I'm in the running with several amazing bands, some of which have 10,000 people in their mailing list, have been featured in Rolling Stone and well... you get the point! Hello from New Jersey!

I’ve been here for almost 2 weeks and I love the east coast!!! All of the trees are blooming and the streets are filled with fallen flowers. New York has truly captured my heart and I love not only the city, but also the people. After only a couple days in the city my head was spinning with thoughts of where to live and how I could pull it off without becoming a slave to another full time job. I’ll just have to see what doors open and be patient along the way.

If you’ve been reading my blog you’ve heard bits about what I’ve been up to and have seen lots of pictures, but I wanted to share some great news since I updated last!

First, I have my first NY show THIS coming Tuesday at Rockwood Music Hall and I’m really looking forward! Because I don’t know many people here I would be EVER SO GRATEFUL if you told your friends/family who live in the area about my show. I’m telling ya, it’s much more fun to play for people than to no one. Hard to imagine, but true! Pllleeeeaasssseee and thank-you!!!

Now, the fun news I wanted to share is that I will be playing SUMMERFEST this year!!! Summerfest is the world’s largest music festival and to have such an opportunity as this is a big honor! I’m performing as a part of their Emerging Artist Series, playing on the same day as Katy Perry and on the same stage as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero’s!! How fun is that going to be?!!! There are just so many great artists playing the festival it’ll make your head spin. It’s going to be more fun than I can even imagine I’m sure! CHECK MY TOUR SECTION FOR DEETS!

In other news… aside from drinking lots of coffee, I’m practicing every day, reading and writing. I love to read but never had the time and when I did make the time I felt guilty that I was not writing or doing something more productive. Not anymore. I feel no guilt and all of the reading on top of this crazy journey is inspiring a lot of writing. While that may sound like a nice vacation for some, I'm working really hard to make Europe happen as well as find the right team for my next project.

I'm in Nashville - day 2 after a week at SXSW and a stop in Memphis. It's been such an amazing trip this far and I'm loving every moment!

I'm working on booking shows in NY and UK and will update once the dates are locked in. For fun I posted a ROUGH video of a song I wrote a long time ago called "Traveling Man". Nick and I were packing up our hotel in Memphis when he started to play it and here is our first lil' run through before having to check out of our room! I had to jot the lyrics down on hotel paper because I forgot what I wrote so long ago!

Happy holidays! I can’t believe the New Year is upon us yet again. This year really, really flew by. That said I’m also really, really excited about what is to come in 2011.

The past few months I’ve been busy writing for my next project and even squeezed in a couple shows. I was a guest blogger for The Record Rebellion for the month of October, which was a neat experience. It forced me to sit with my thoughts and I’m going to try and blog on a more regular basis. Especially as I am about to embark on a crazy journey…

I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I work a day job. Unable to do music full time, I committed 8 years to my job and would do music on nights and weekends. It afforded me to pursue music on the levels I have. From touring the NW a couple times, playing a show in Austin during SXSW for Red Gorilla Music Fest, and more expensively the recording of my EP. This is just a few of the ways my job has supported me musically.

While I’m very grateful for the job I’ve had, I decided to quit my job, sell everything I own and move to the east coast. All in an effort to do music full time and really “go for it”. I have hit a ceiling with my music by having a day job where I’m working 40-45 hours a week. I don’t have enough time to practice or write and I’m at the point where I really need that time. My soul has also been depleted and I have not been happy for a really long time. I believe it is up to us to play an active role in our happiness. So, last week I gave them 2 months notice.

I don’t believe that moving to NY is the answer. I’m going for a change of scenery and to experience something different. I plan to spend some time in Nashville to write and play a couple shows as well and will do everything I can to combine music with traveling. I will be forced to hustle! ;)

Aside from it all being VERY scary, it is also very exciting. If you want to win big you got to go big, right? Well… in 2011 let us all “go big”! May you take risks in the pursuit of happiness and to get what you really want out of life. If you fall, you fall… as it is said, life is not about the destination, it is about the journey.

Hey There!

I just wanted to let you know I've added a show on Sunday, October 3rd (8:30pm-11pm) at The Foundry on Melrose. Every Sunday is their "Suds and Songs" night where beers are $2 and for you wine drinkers... they pour a mean glass of wine! It'll be an intimate, acoustic show with a few guest performers. The best part is... it's FREE! Definitely one of my favorite ways to spend a Sunday night...

Good day to you!

I hope this finds you well and enjoying your summer. I have to say I’m not too happy with summer here in LA thus far. It has been warm for the most part, but not sunny. It’s been a warm, gray summer. Someone told me that means we will have a harsh winter. In LA that just means a lot of rain, but for a city who can’t handle the overflow from a left on water hose… the rain kicks our butt. Guess we shall see!

I had wonderful, wonderful time at Hotel Café on July 10th for my birthday show! Thank-you to everyone who came out; it truly was a special day. There are some videos from the show online so if you go to YouTube and type my name those videos should pop up. I have not been planning any upcoming shows for I’d like to focus on writing and prepping for the next recording project. That said I have been debating on getting some small acoustic shows in there. I’ll keep you posted if so!

I am going to be shooting a music video for “Never Say Never” in early September and will keep you posted on how it’s coming along. The hardest part has been getting the concept in place given the restrictions of money etc. BUT, it’s forcing us to get creative and think outside of the box.

Anyway, I just wanted to drop a line to say “hi”. I want to keep in better touch with you all and hope you’ll drop me a line as well to let me know how you’re doing. Thanks so very much for your support and I hope you have a great weekend!

Happy summer to ya! I can’t believe it’s July already… which means… another birthday for me. One year older… hopefully one year wiser!

To celebrate, I’ll be playing THIS Saturday, July 10th at 8:30pm at my favorite venue, Hotel Café. It’s the first time I’ve ever played a show for my birthday so it would mean the world to have you there!! It will likely be the last full band show I’ll be doing for a while as I prepare for my next recording project. I’m writing and I could not be more excited about these songs!! I hope this finds you well, gearing up for a wonderful New Year! I have to admit... I'm ready to say goodbye to 2009. While it was a great year in many ways, it was a very tough year in many ways. I have a MUCH better feeling about 2010 and cannot wait for what is to come! :)

First, I want to let you know I'll be doing a NW tour starting the end of February through early March and will be touring with 2 members of the band Lunar Sway - www.lunarsway.com. I toured with them earlier this year and it was extremely successful! Not to mention we had a BLAST!

Second, I want to give you an overall nutshell update. :) I am writing and so very excited about these new songs. I'd also like to record a couple acoustic singles - one will be a song never released. On the touring front, aside from the NW, I'll be booking shows in AZ, TX, East Coast and hoping to get over to Europe. It's tricky with funding, but I'm remaining optimistic!

Hello, hello, hello! These past months have been quite a ride, but I'll just sum it up and say I've been sick like never before and FINALLY, finally feeling better. I'm ready to get back on stage and hit the road! I also want to add... for any of you who may be going through some health obstacles as well, look into acupuncture and herbal medicine. ;) Hey... just a recommendation... do what's best for you (that's my lil disclaimer)!

I am currently working on booking shows starting in January and it will be a busy first half of the year from there. With shows in the NW, SW, East Coast and Europe. Goooood times! I'm writing and so excited about getting my ideas out of my head and into this lovely world. I appreciate all of your support in the meantime and if you have not already - STOP by your favorite music store and pick up my EP "Don't Worry... it's Not Love".
